Jude Law will officially join the wizarding world after being cast as young Albus Dumbledore in upcoming sequel ‘Fantastic Beasts’ 2.
The casting of Jude law as young Albus Dumbledore means he will face off with Johnny Depp who was revealed as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald for the new movie. Two castings which gained mixed attention on social media when they were announced.
Director of the upcoming movie, David Yates, said this regarding the capture of Law as Dumbledore:
‘Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I’ve long admired and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.’
Jude has a impressive background in both film and theatre being nominated for two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and two BAFTAs – winning one also. He has worked with Harry Potter actors in his career too, with stars Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy), Frances De La Tour (Madame Maxime) and Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley).
The Fantastic Beasts franchise is set to span 5 movies, two less than Harry Potter, and will have David Yates direct all 5. Yates is the same director who done four of the seven Harry Potter movies.
Fantastic Beasts 2 will start filming this summer and is planned to release 16th November 2018.
