NBC Cancel ‘Emerald City’ After Only One Season
This show has suffered the same fate at NBC as ‘Powerless’, being cancelled after just the one season.
The reason for its premature departure from television is its very poor ratings, especially with the amount of money NBC sacrificed to the production of it, hoping it would be a success.
The series premiere managed to pull in a respectable 4,5 Million viewers, but this quickly declined to 2.3 Million viewers further into the series, but it spiked a bit more for the finale, reaching a still-low 2.9 Million viewers.
Executive producers of the show Shaun Cassidy and David Schulner revealed that they wanted to have a season 2, and had plans for one should it be renewed but knew it’d be a long shot due to the ratings.
It is fair to say that the show’s darker take on it’s source material, the original light-hearted ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ was executed really badly and did not at all capture viewers imagination, and it will be remembered as the poor adaptation of the original movie.
