An R2-D2 From Original ‘Star Wars’ Movies Sells For $2.76 Million At Auction

An official  R2-D2 droid used in the original ‘Star Wars’ movies as well as two of the prequels was recently sold at an auction in California for millions! Worth it?

Even for the biggest fans of the franchise, you most likely wouldn’t pay $2.76 million for it. Well, a buyer with a spare couple of million dollars considered it a good purchase and a worthy investment. We do not know who the buyer is.

News outlet Entertainment Weekly profiled the prestigious item: “Constructed of aluminum, steel, and fiberglass elements, the droid measures 43 x 29.5 x 20 inches and was pieced together over the years from original components used in Star WarsThe Empire Strikes BackReturn of the JediThe Phantom Menace, and Attack of the Clones,”

The California-based auction in-house valuation was said to be between $1 million and $2 million. Fair to say it massively exceeded the expectations!
