The highest-rated ITV drama of the year is set to make a return to screens in 2019 for a season 2.
Earlier this week ITV issued the press release that we’ve all been waiting for, that a new season of ‘Liar’ has been ordered for a 2019 release. That’s right, we’ll be waiting a while for the second season, which starts filming January 2019, and will most likely release later the same year. Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd will both return for the new series, which will be written once again by Jack Williams and Harry Williams of Two Brothers Pictures.
It’s no wonder that the show has been commissioned for a second season, with viewing figured reaching an average 6.5 million viewers per episode and peaked with its nail-biting season finale at 7 million. ITV must’ve jumped at the chance at ordering a new season with numbers like those as well as the very high ratings.
It was the ITV Head of Drama set her sights on the new season and is making it happen, read what she said about season 2 below:
“Liar has gripped the nation over the last six weeks and we’re delighted both Joanne and Ioan will return to play Laura and Andrew. Jack and Harry Williams are incredible storytellers and part two of Liar will have the audience equally gripped, as we find out who killed Andrew Earlham.”
The two creators Jack Williams and Harry Williams also spoke out on the renewal of the show to ITV saying:
“We always hoped this story would return for its final chapter, and we can’t wait to be reunited with the brilliant Joanne and Ioan”
