A live-action Star Wars TV series is coming with a whole new trilogy.
Exciting times are ahead as Star Wars Network Disney has closed a deal with director Rian Johnson to produce a new trilogy of the franchise. They’ll also bring the franchise to new grounds by making a live-action TV series.
Lucasfilm and Disney have been so proud of Rian’s production of ‘The Last Jedi’ that they will bring him back to be director for the new trilogy and the TV series, which is set to air in 2019. Read what president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy said about Rian below:
“We all loved working with Rian on ‘The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft ‘The Last Jedi’ from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

Rain Johnson himself shared his excitement on Twitter, telling fans he hopes they enjoy The Last Jedi even more now that he is at the helm for the movies to come.

The 2019 Star Wars TV series will air exclusively on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, which has been revealed to be substantially lower priced than Netflix, which recently raised its monthly price to $10.99. Disney will put all other TV series and movies on there too, including an upcoming series adaptation of Monsters Inc and High School Musical.
