The ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV Show Could Cost Amazon Up To $1 Billion To Produce

Amazon will go all-out for their Lord of the Rings series, spending $1 billion on it!


Over the past few weeks we’ve bought you so much news regarding Amazon’s mega-deal to take us back to the magic of Middle Earth for a series which they hope will fit the hole left from Game Of Thrones. New news had emerged that the full cost of the series could end up costing Amazon £1 billion. It this is the cost, it will make it the most expensive TV show of all time behind Netflix’s The Crown, The Get Down, Friends & you guessed it, Game Of Thrones.

According to THR, the rights Amazon needed to obtain in order to create the series set them back $250 million as well as other factors. “Once production budgets, casting, writers, producers and visual effects are factored in, the total for the Rings series — which will be set in Middle-earth and explore storylines preceding The Fellowship of the Ring — could hit $1 billion. Yes, $1 billion for a TV show.”
