‘Game Of Thrones’ actor Peter Dinklage has urged fans to stop buying huskies after watching the show as they could be putting the animals in danger.
This situation has happened before in the media, with parents buying Clown Fish for their children after watching the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ to find that they are incredibly hard to look after, due to them being tropical fish.
Since Game Of Thrones first aired in 2011, many sellers have reported a surge in the sales of huskies, with fans purchasing them as their own ‘Direwolves’. Due to the constant care these animals require, some families have resorted to abandoning them.
An animal shelter in London told the Independent that the number of abandoned huskies and malamutes had doubled between 2010 and 2013.
“In 2010, a total of 53 huskies and malamutes came through the doors, but by 2013 as the show became more popular the number had doubled to 116.”
Huge Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister on the show was the first cast member to speak out on this issue, stating that fans don’t know the responsibilities that come with buying one of these high-maintenance pets. In August he partnered with PETA to help solve this issue.

“Not only does this hurt all the deserving homeless dogs waiting for a chance at a good home in shelters, but shelters are also reporting that many of these huskies are being abandoned — as often happens when dogs are bought on impulse, without understanding their needs.”
Obviously not all fans of the show that buy a husky or malamute are putting them in danger, but we should as a fanbase warn others of the responsibilities that come with purchasing one. We cannot let any more people abandon their pets!
