This weekends Box Office has saw Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle overtake Star Wars: The Last Jedi for the first time.
The Jumanji reboot tops the Box Office, but The Last Jedi has fell to third place following the release of Insidious: The Last Key. Columbia Pictures announced that the Dwayne Johnson movie Jumanji is estimated to have earned an additional $36
million this weekend, bringing its total to $244.4 million.
The adventure movie is the highest grossing live action release of all-time to star Kevin Hart and is the second largest live action release for Dwayne Johnson behind Furious 7‘s massive $353 million domestic haul and it’s showing little sign of slowing down after dropping just 28% this weekend.
“This is all about ‘Jumanji’s’ staying power,” Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for box office tracker comScore said about the movie. “This is a movie that was overshadowed by all the excitement around ‘The Last Jedi,’ and yet ‘Jumanji’ just kept plugging away and drawing audiences throughout the holiday … This is kind of unheard of for a movie this size.”
Despite grossing the most money in $572.5 million, the new Star Wars movie fell into third place. The Last Jedi has gained the accolade of being the second greatest domestic debut of all time. It is also the fifth-biggest worldwide film opening since 2002.Jumanji Overtakes Star Wars: The Last Jedi In The Box Office Click To Tweet
