80’s sci-fi classic RoboCop could be returning for an entirely new sequel to the original movie soon, with the co-creator Ed Neumeier teasing a surprise return in a recent interview.
In a similar fashion to the success of the sci-fi classic Blade Runner sequel, RoboCop will try to engage fans again by creating another, modern sequel to the original movie.
This is definitely an exciting development for fans, who will be able to see what happens where the original left off. There were two sequels made, but Ed Neumeier wants to make a completely new story. If the new movie is given the green-light he would continue after the events of the original movie, not RoboCop 3.
RoboCop made a return back in 2014 starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman & Michael Keaton. However, the highly-anticipated reboot didn’t perform as well as expected in the Box Office and ultimately failed to captivate audiences. It got mixed reviews, with many saying that the original simply didn’t need a modern reboot. Could a sequel be any better?
In a recent interview with Zeitgeist Entertainment Magazine, Neumeier teased us that he is working on a sequel to the original movie, and not RoboCop 3. He told us that he cannot say much more: “We’re not supposed to say too much,” Read what he said in full below:
'RoboCop' Co-Creator Working On A Sequel Of The 80's Sci-Fi Movie Click To Tweet
“There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.”
For those who have not seen the original, RoboCop is set in a dystopic and crime-ridden Detroit, where a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg haunted by submerged memories.
