Dinklage portrays Tyrion Lannister on the fantasy show, a character that undoubtedly stole our hearts with his wit and knowledge. The actor thinks that despite fans being saddened by the fact that their favorite show will finish forever in 2019, ending Game Of Thrones after season 8 is the right time.

“This is the final season, so it’s pretty long, it’s a long one,” he said in an interview with Variety. “We’re really taking our time with this one. It’s bittersweet.”

The 48 year-old actor also said that story-wise it is the right time to end it, mentioning that he doesn’t want it to become stale like other shows. “It’s time. Storywise, not just for all our lives. It’s the perfect time to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long, the jumping-the-shark thing.”

Dinklage is already pursuing other roles, he most recently starred in Reed Morano’s I Think We’re Alone Now,  which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. After season 8, he will have an almost clear schedule to land many other roles. This is something that has been said by other GoT actors regarding their careers as well, specifically Sophie Turner, Kit Harrington and Maisie Williams.

On whether he is saddened by the TV giant and quite possibly the biggest show to ever air coming to an end, Dinklage said, “It’s always the sad part of our business, because you get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it’s always heartbreaking. Especially when you’ve spent more than a couple of months with people.”

Even though Thrones may be approaching its end, we’ve still got the huge excitement of a whole new season to look forward to, as well as the highly anticipated spin-off’s, which have been confirmed for at least one series.

Do you think that now is the right time to end the show? Is Dinklage right?
