This week the creator of The Walking Dead franchise Robert Kirkman has offered us the ultimate teaser, that Carl Grimes might not die. Though let’s face it, he probably is.
The mid-season finale ‘How It’s Gotta Be’ shocked viewers after they saw one of our favorite characters Carl Grimes open his shirt to reveal a Walker bite in one of the final scenes. This bite will controversially see the end for Carl in one of the upcoming episodes, most likely the midseason premiere, which airs in February. One of the main reasons it was so huge and controversial was because in Robert Kirkman’s comics, Carl is still a pivotal character.
Carl is dead, unless he isn’t? According to Robert Kirkman the character could remain alive.
When the comic writer made an appearance on the Walker Stalker Cruise Q&A panel (via Comic Book) he jokingly toyed with the idea that Carl Grimes, and how he may not actually die, a twist that would be huge, but won’t happen?
“He’s not dead yet. He might not die.” Kirkman teased, “You never know. But I think if, were that to happen, I think that it would have some interesting ramifications on Rick, that I think would energize and really kind of set things in motion in a really interesting way leading to the resolution of All Out War in a way that will make for a very exciting back half to season 8, so I think it’s going to be really cool.”The Walking Dead: Carl' 'Might Not Die' Says Creator Robert Kirkman Click To Tweet
Kirkman later revealed that he agrees with the hugely controversial to kill off Carl in the series, though he still sees the character as a central part of his comics.
With a release date set for February 25th, the second half of season 8 looks like it will tackle All-Out-War head-on and have it reach a full conclusion for season 9 which will start afresh with its new showrunner Angela Kang. Season 8 part 2 has been called ‘The Last Stand’
