Both Amazon and Virgin Media have signed a deal worth over $40m to make a sci-fi TV series, The Freed.
The show will consist of 10, hour-long episodes with a view to produce more seasons should it be a success.
Serving as writer will be Channing Powell, who is best known for her work on The Walking Dead, acting as writer and executive producer spanning seasons one to eight. She was involved in writing some of the highest-rated episodes in the AMC drama. The Guardian tells us that the show is set in a dystopian society in the near future in London where an implant that nearly everyone has that allows memories, emotions and information to be shared goes horribly wrong. We also know that despite the series being set in London, it will be filmed in the North-West in Manchester.
The Freed will be based on the book of the same name by Nick Clark, you can pre-order it here for it’s global release on March 13th. The Goodreads synopsis gives us a little more detailed information about the story itself, it says: The Feed is everywhere. It can be accessed by anyone, at any time. Every interaction, every emotion, every image can be shared through it. Tom and Kate use The Feed, but they have resisted addiction to it. And this will serve them well when The Feed collapses. Until their six-year-old daughter, Bea, goes missing. Because how do you find someone in a world devoid of technology? And what happens when you can no longer trust that your loved ones are really who they claim to be?Amazon sign deal with Virgin Media to make a Sci-Fi TV series with 'The Walking Dead' producer Click To Tweet
