Marvel’s latest movie Black Panther has passed James Cameron’s epic Titanic on the all-time Box Office highest grossing movies.
The Marvel and Disney property is the third highest grossing box office movie in North American history, recently overtaking Titanic, leaving it only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and James Cameron’s fantasy Avatar.
The Michael B. Jordan movie Black Panther currently stands at $665.4 million domestically. It is the biggest Box Office release for the opening weekend in the month of February. It’s also got the record for the most tweeted about movie of the year so far, but with movies like Solo: A Star Wars Story pending release, it’s quite unlikely that the record will hold.
As for this weekends box office, it was “A Quiet Place” which took top spot, followed by Steven Spielberg’s science fiction epic Ready Player One. Black Panther sits in fourth behind Blockers.
Black Panther 2 is also happening! When Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of a sequel, he confirmed that there will be one.
“We absolutely will do that,” he said. “One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a part one and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a part two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first ‘Black Panther.’ We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”
