‘The Walking Dead’ producer Scott Gimple recently teased the upcoming intense conclusion to all-out-war in the show, and revealed that the finale is almost an ending to the first eight seasons.
In past weeks a lot has happened behind-the-scenes of the drama. We have seen The Walking Dead strike a season 9 renewal, with a brand new showrunner, with AMC taking bold moves and taking Scott Gimple away from that position and making him Chief Content Officer at AMC.
The new showrunner will be former co-executive producer Angela Kang, who was promoted into this position. Angela Kang joined in The Walking Dead writing staff in Season 2 as a Story Editor. She then went on to become co-Executive Producer by Season 5 till season 8. In season 9 she will act as showrunner. No pressure.
“This is an enormously important day for the entire The Walking Dead television universe,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction.”
When Scott Gimple was recently interviewed by EW he teased what’s to come in the finale, touching on how emotional and intense it was to be on set while filming. “I was there, and it was an intense vibe. It was a very hard season. And kind of everybody is in this episode. It was just intense. People were pretty to the limit this year emotionally. Also, this episode isn’t just like these 15 episodes coming to a conclusion, but Angela and myself and the writers had always talked about this in many ways being sort of the conclusion of the first eight seasons.”
He also revealed to us that The Walking Dead will be a different show for season 9, implying at the new direction the now-showrunner Angela Kang wants to take us. “This show will be very much a new show next year and with a bigger, new narrative. It was something I was really excited about getting into even before season 8. And so there was just a certain weight in the air of the kind of conclusion that we were getting closer to. It was a weird graduation for everybody.”
